Told through alternating POVs, The Encore follows Lottie, Anna, and Will during transformative periods in their lives. All three are wildly talented musicians on wildly different paths. Although their lives are different, they are connected in ways they could have never imagined, and the discovery of these connections leads them on quite the journey. They embark on a cross-country tour and are forced to reconcile with their past choices.

What I loved:
• The NYC setting
• The fashion designer uncle/father figure
• I learned a LOT about music (as someone who knows next to nothing about music this was very cool to learn about)
• I appreciated how delicately the author handled heavy topics

What I didn’t love:
• I was not a huge fan of the big choice Anna made (this choice basically drove the plot of the whole book). I wished it had played out differently, and I had a hard time accepting why she did it. But after more was revealed about her past, I came to understand and respect her decision

Thank you so much for the ARC, @unionsqandco!

Heart the Lover has been allll over my feed - but it fell a little flat for me. The writing is solid, but I wanted more time with the characters to have an even deeper understanding of them. I think it could have been 100 or so pages longer and that would have solved a lot of it! Also, this is definitely *not* a light read even though the cover is bright and fun.

Overall - still worth the read, especially if you’ve read any of her other books! It’s a quick and emotional read that I finished in one sitting.

In The Correspondent, we meet Sybil, a curmudgeonly and stubborn older lady who lives alone and is slowly going blind. It’s a beautifully written epistolary novel, told only through letters and emails. There is no traditional dialogue, yet I felt like I understood the characters deeply, which was fascinating to me. I don’t think I’ve read anything else told entirely through letters and emails. It got me thinking a lot about the power of the written word and how the shorter form of texting has replaced letter-writing, and the (likely negative) impact that this has on our ability to form deeper connections with others. Besides thank-you notes, I’ve never taken the time to write someone a letter, but The Correspondent made me wish I had.

Sybil was a grump and a bit stubborn, but she ended up being my favorite character (although Theodore was a very close second). I laughed, I cried, and I loved every word. This is one I’ll be recommending to EVERYONE. 5 ⭐️

Book Review: Float Plan

*Spoiler-Free Review*

Synopsis (taken from Goodreads):

Critically acclaimed author Trish Doller’s unforgettable and romantic adult debut about setting sail, starting over, and finding yourself…

Since the loss of her fiancé, Anna has been shipwrecked by grief—until a reminder goes off about a trip they were supposed to take together. Impulsively, Anna goes to sea in their sailboat, intending to complete the voyage alone.

But after a treacherous night’s sail, she realizes she can’t do it by herself and hires Keane, a professional sailor, to help. Much like Anna, Keane is struggling with a very different future than the one he had planned. As romance rises with the tide, they discover that it’s never too late to chart a new course.

In Trish Doller’s unforgettable Float Plan, starting over doesn’t mean letting go of your past, it means making room for your future.

Float Plan (4/5 Stars)

Anna has recently lost her fiancé, Ben, and is in the grieving process when she decides to impulsively quit her job and take the sailing trip that she was originally supposed to go on with Ben. She encounters some troubles early on the trip and ends up hiring a professional sailor to help her complete her journey. The professional she hires is a man named Keane and their relationship blossoms into something much more than either of them ever anticipated.

This book made me so happy. I went into it blindly because the cover looked fun (and possiblyyy because it’s on Kindle Unlimited and I’m trying to save some book money hahaha).

I really, really enjoyed this book. Anna and Keane are likeable and I don’t think I’ve read a book that changes settings as much as this one does! It makes me wish I could quit my job and sail around the Caribbean. 😂

Light and fun while also covering serious topics, Float Plan is a perfect summer vacation/beach read. I’m hooked and will definitely be reading The Suite Spot (about Anna’s sister) soon!

Read if you enjoy:

➝ Love & Other Words (it’s got the whole second chance romance vibe going on)
