I literally had no idea One Day was based on a book and I accidentally broke my read-before-you-watch rule 🥲 BUT I didn’t finish the show so I don’t know the spoiler at the end

Last night I started All We Ever Wanted and I’m a little over halfway through it. I love a lighter read in between heavier books and that’s exactly what this is!

🌎 SMALL WORLD by Laura Zigman: A powerful novel of sisterhood and hope—a reminder that sometimes you have to look back in order to move ahead.

💐 ADELAIDE by Genevieve Wheeler: My favorite book of all time–an ‘un-romance’ as I like to call it, focusing on a toxic relationship and the detriment it has on the main character, Adelaide, and her life.

🩵 OUR MISSING HEARTS by Celeste Ng: A novel about the lessons and legacies we pass on to our children and the power of art to create change.

🪦 THE CARETAKER by Ron Rash: Depicts the human capacity for delusion and destruction all too often justified as acts of love.

🤕 MISERY by Stephen King: The book that inspired the movie of the same name, Misery is a good foray into Stephen King’s books because it’s one of his shorter ones (in contrast to IT or Under the Dome which are both 1,000-1,800+ pages). A famous novelist is held hostage in a remote location by his “number one fan”.

April is shaping up to be one of the best pub mont

April is shaping up to be one of the best pub months of the year! From Emily Henry’s newest book (my most anticipated release of April) to satirical novels like Bitter Texas Honey, there’s something for everyone this month.

Sharing my review of Long Bright River in honor of

Sharing my review of Long Bright River in honor of the TV adaptation premiering on @peacock last week!

I read (and loved) The God of the Woods last summer as it blew up following its early July 2024 publication. Because I enjoyed The God of the Woods so much, I knew that I wanted to read Liz Moore’s backlist, which includes Long Bright River, The Unseen World, Heft, and The Words of Every Song. I chose to read Long Bright River next simply because of the impending TV adaptation - I wanted to read it before watching the show. So far, I’ve seen the first episode (don’t worry, I won’t give any spoilers), and it’s already different from the book in lots of ways (not bad, just different!). I’m really glad I read the book first!

Similar to The God of the Woods, Long Bright River is told through alternating timelines. However, as The God of the Woods switches not only timelines but character POVs as well, Long Bright River sticks with a single narrator throughout the entirety of the book. I love multi-POV style narration, and I was hoping for that in Long Bright River as well, but it didn’t take away from how much I liked the book. My favorite thing about this author is how strong her characterization is. I’ve written about it a few times on this account before, but backstories are one of my favorite ways to learn more about characters. Liz Moore puts a lot of thought into her characters and their backstories, which makes me root for them even more.

I found myself not wanting this to end; from the story, to the characters, to the writing, I was hooked from page one and never felt bored.

I’d highly recommend this if you enjoyed The God of the Woods or if you’re a fan of crime thrillers! And don’t forget to check out the show on @peacock (Amanada Seyfried is the lead) 🤩

**OUT NOW** Set in the near future (2034, to be e $**OUT NOW** Set in the near future (2034, to be exact), The Dream Hotel imagines a world where the government can use your dreams to predict future criminal behavior you may or may not commit. The main character, Sara, has been detained on the premise that she MIGHT commit a crime because of a dream she had one time. Sara is taken to a center where she is constantly monitored. All women are taken to the center under the guise that it is a 21-day period, where their dreams and behavior will be monitored until they are deemed safe to re-enter society. However, no matter what she does, Sara (or any of the other women) can’t gain enough points to reclaim her freedom. Every infraction is time added to her stay at the center. I felt for Sara as she described her feelings of frustration and anger with the center and her situation overall. Going into this, I didn’t expect it to be so eerie! The combination of Sara’s POV as well as the behind-the-scenes of the center guards and other staff members showed their true colors, which gives the novel an overall eerie feel. It’s marketed as a thriller, but I would categorize this one as dystopian fiction vs. a true thriller. I noticed several reviews comparing it to Minority Report, which I’ve never seen, but after reading a bit about the movie I can see where the comparisons are drawn.
