Sharing my review of Long Bright River in honor of the TV adaptation premiering on @peacock last week!

I read (and loved) The God of the Woods last summer as it blew up following its early July 2024 publication. Because I enjoyed The God of the Woods so much, I knew that I wanted to read Liz Moore’s backlist, which includes Long Bright River, The Unseen World, Heft, and The Words of Every Song. I chose to read Long Bright River next simply because of the impending TV adaptation - I wanted to read it before watching the show. So far, I’ve seen the first episode (don’t worry, I won’t give any spoilers), and it’s already different from the book in lots of ways (not bad, just different!). I’m really glad I read the book first!

Similar to The God of the Woods, Long Bright River is told through alternating timelines. However, as The God of the Woods switches not only timelines but character POVs as well, Long Bright River sticks with a single narrator throughout the entirety of the book. I love multi-POV style narration, and I was hoping for that in Long Bright River as well, but it didn’t take away from how much I liked the book. My favorite thing about this author is how strong her characterization is. I’ve written about it a few times on this account before, but backstories are one of my favorite ways to learn more about characters. Liz Moore puts a lot of thought into her characters and their backstories, which makes me root for them even more.

I found myself not wanting this to end; from the story, to the characters, to the writing, I was hooked from page one and never felt bored.

I’d highly recommend this if you enjoyed The God of the Woods or if you’re a fan of crime thrillers! And don’t forget to check out the show on @peacock (Amanada Seyfried is the lead) 🤩

**OUT NOW** Set in the near future (2034, to be e $**OUT NOW** Set in the near future (2034, to be exact), The Dream Hotel imagines a world where the government can use your dreams to predict future criminal behavior you may or may not commit. The main character, Sara, has been detained on the premise that she MIGHT commit a crime because of a dream she had one time. Sara is taken to a center where she is constantly monitored. All women are taken to the center under the guise that it is a 21-day period, where their dreams and behavior will be monitored until they are deemed safe to re-enter society. However, no matter what she does, Sara (or any of the other women) can’t gain enough points to reclaim her freedom. Every infraction is time added to her stay at the center. I felt for Sara as she described her feelings of frustration and anger with the center and her situation overall. Going into this, I didn’t expect it to be so eerie! The combination of Sara’s POV as well as the behind-the-scenes of the center guards and other staff members showed their true colors, which gives the novel an overall eerie feel. It’s marketed as a thriller, but I would categorize this one as dystopian fiction vs. a true thriller. I noticed several reviews comparing it to Minority Report, which I’ve never seen, but after reading a bit about the movie I can see where the comparisons are drawn. After the busiest week I've had in a LONG time, I'm finally done with work/personal/grad school stuff and can start a new book! I'm so happy rn I could cry lol

I'm starting In Every Life today! When I go to the library I love to browse the new release section for titles that weren't on my new release radar for whatever reason. I usually leave with 4 or 5 books that I haven't seen anyone talking about on Booksta/Goodreads to try to ~expand my reading horizon~. This was one of those picks for February and I can't wait to start it!

Part of the reason I don’t enjoy romances that m

Part of the reason I don’t enjoy romances that much is because they seem to drag on forever. I’m not a fan of the filler/fluff part of it all. Enter: 831 Stories.

831 Stories describes itself as a “modern romantic fiction company,” and that’s a spot-on description for them. Their books are on the shorter side, closer to novella length than novel-length. Big Fan is the first book I’ve read from them, and I found Big Fan to be PERFECT. No drawn-out filler chapters, great writing, likeable characters, real-life scenarios. If you like the longer, slow burn romances, this honestly might not be the book for you. But if you’re anything like me and aren’t crazy about romance, then you should give Big Fan a try! It’s currently available on Kindle Unlimited ❤️‍🔥
