I started this account in 2020 as a way to avoid going crazy from boredom during the COVID lockdown. Over the years, Bookstagram has become my favorite corner of the internet, my creative outlet, and honestly a passion project of mine.

I’m also really passionate about fashion and home decor - I believe they’re some of the best ways to express yourself and add moments of joy into the everyday.

Unfortunately These Summer Storms was not a hit for our group. The writing felt clunky and the characters fell flat. The premise is intriguing and I love the “rich people behaving badly” trope, but the execution just wasn’t there. BUT…even when we all dislike the book (aka this month’s book), the convo is always flowing, and the other girls bring such funny and insightful thoughts!

Currently reading too many books lol

I’m reading These Summer Storms for book club (it was my turn to pick the book this month and sadly I am not loving the book so far 😬) AND Project Hail Mary (attempting to finish before seeing the movie on Friday) AND Throne of Glass.

I’ve been reading a lot this week, but I’ve been in a major reading slump for close to a month now. It’s super disappointing because the first few books I read this year were so amazing. Fingers crossed it’ll pick back up soon 🤞🏻

Told through alternating POVs, The Encore follows Lottie, Anna, and Will during transformative periods in their lives. All three are wildly talented musicians on wildly different paths. Although their lives are different, they are connected in ways they could have never imagined, and the discovery of these connections leads them on quite the journey. They embark on a cross-country tour and are forced to reconcile with their past choices.

What I loved:
• The NYC setting
• The fashion designer uncle/father figure
• I learned a LOT about music (as someone who knows next to nothing about music this was very cool to learn about)
• I appreciated how delicately the author handled heavy topics

What I didn’t love:
• I was not a huge fan of the big choice Anna made (this choice basically drove the plot of the whole book). I wished it had played out differently, and I had a hard time accepting why she did it. But after more was revealed about her past, I came to understand and respect her decision

Thank you so much for the ARC, @unionsqandco!
Happy Monday! I hope everyone has a great reading Happy Monday! I hope everyone has a great reading week 😇

I’m reading Project Hail Mary (I actually started it a few months ago and paused for some reason?!) and Wuthering Heights on my kindle. I know the movie isn’t exactly like the book, but I still want to read it before going to see the new movie on 3/1 ❤️‍🔥

Book Review: Cover Story

*Spoiler-Free Review*

Synopsis (taken from Goodreads):

After a rough year at NYU, aspiring writer Lora Ricci is thrilled to land a summer internship at ELLE magazine where she meets Cat Wolff, contributing editor and enigmatic daughter of a clean-energy mogul. Cat takes Lora under her wing, soliciting her help with side projects and encouraging her writing.

As a friendship emerges between the two women, Lora opens up to Cat about her desperate struggles and lost scholarship. Cat’s solution: Drop out of NYU and become her ghostwriter. Lora agrees and, when the internship ends, she moves into Cat’s suite at the opulent Plaza Hotel. Writing during the day and accompanying Cat to extravagant parties at night, Lora’s life quickly shifts from looming nightmare to dream-come-true. But as Lora is drawn into Cat’s glamorous lifestyle, Cat’s perfect exterior cracks, exposing an illicit, shady world.

A whip-smart and delightfully inventive writer, Susan Rigetti brilliantly pieces together a perceptive, humorous caper full of sharp observations about scam culture. Composed of diary entries, emails, FBI correspondence, and more, Cover Story is a fresh, fun, and wholly original novel that takes readers deep into the codependency and deceit found in a relationship built on power imbalance and lies.

Cover Story by Susan Rigetti: 4/5 Stars

Gonna keep this one short & sweet! I read this in one sitting, not the norm for me but it’s such a quick read.

Cover Story is told through a series of diary entries, FBI reports, newspaper articles, Slack messages, and emails. Basically, this is the story of con artist “Cat Wolff” and how she scammed many people throughout New York City and beyond.

This light, fun read was just what I needed after finishing Night Road which is much heavier and darker.

If you’ve seen Inventing Anna, The Dropout, or any of those types of shows, I think you would LOVE Cover Story. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an easy & entertaining summer read!

February hopefuls 💙 The Encore: The strong bond b February hopefuls 💙

The Encore: The strong bond between two college friends and musicians is made more complicated when a long withheld secret is exposed, forcing them together on an unexpected journey. Releases in March!

Wuthering Heights: I know the new movie isn’t going to be an exact adaptation, but I still really want to read it before seeing the movie release later this month!

We Love You, Bunny: The sequel to the beloved Bunny. I’m really looking forward to reading this one!

The Cliffs: J. Courtney Sullivan is one of my favorite authors who mainly writes literary fiction, so when I heard she had a newer release I somehow missed, I knew I had to check it out!
